Engaging Ian to review our paperwork, including the floor plans and designs, enabled us to make really important changes early on in the building process. There were many things that we as novices didn’t know to look for, such as making sure the rooms were the ideal size and orientation, making the best use of space, and questioning why certain expensive but unnecessary items were added. The pre-contract check was, in hindsight, essential.

I had been speaking to a colleague at work, who recommended a building broker, which I had never heard of, but also had nothing to lose. That’s when we met Ian, from Statewide Building Brokers. Ian explained the process and took at lot of the leg work and research out of the equation. He was able to use the existing plans we had and tender that out to a range of builders. The best bit, it was free of charge and only used reputable builders with a fixed price HIA building contract & build time.
We had several meetings with Ian, so he could understand what we were trying to achieve, gave us some feedback & some ideas to consider and then set-up a face-to-face meeting with the builder. Once we had met the builder (which Ian was present at), we felt comfortable having someone who could be that liaison point between the consumer and the builder and ensured we were comfortable and confident in our decisions. The builder was great too, he gave us several addresses of properties they were currently building & even gave us access to a similar spec home, we could walk through to see the finished product. This of course was the biggest asset, as we felt confident in our builders ability to execute the plan.
Less than 4 months on and both properties are well underway. I would still be negotiating with the original builder, if we hadn’t made the decision when we did. So far, so good and soon to begin our planning phase for the next development and will be going back to Ian again.
